- What is Five-Star Radio?
Five-Star Radio is an unlockable channel available to logged-in users who have rated at least 20 songs. The playlist of your Five-Star Radio includes every song you have given a rating of 4 or 5 stars. It's a great way to listen to all your favorites in one place.
- Where can I find my Five-Star Radio?
You can find Five-Star Radio by clicking on "My Channels." It will always appear at the top of your Favorites on the AccuRadio website. If you've unlocked the channel, it will always appear in your History and Favorites on either our iOS or Android apps.
- I'm on the website, but my Five-Star radio is greyed out and I can't listen to it.
This channel is unlocked when you rate 20 songs. If you haven't rated enough songs yet, or if you're not logged in, the icon will be grey.
- Can I add more music to my Five-Star Radio?
Yes! You can keep adding tracks to Five-Star Radio after you've unlocked it. When you rate a song 4 or 5 stars, that automatically adds it to your Five-Star Radio playlist. This applies to all songs, whether you're giving a new rating, or changing the rating of a song you've rated before. Of course, in order to add new songs, you'll need to listen to other channels - everything in Five-Star Radio is something you have already rated.
- I have a lot of music in my Five-Star channel, but sometimes I'll hear songs more than once in a day. What's going on?
Two things are important to know here.
-
With a few small exceptions (described in point 2), your Five Star channel will generate a truly random playlist. A "shuffle" playlist, where each song is played once before any repeats, is in a sense the opposite of random - the sequence may be a surprise to the listener, but a shuffle is highly organized. Since a random playlist is created for you every time you launch the channel, there's always a chance you may hear a song you've heard just a few hours ago.
-
When gathering all your highly rated songs for your Five-Star channel, those songs you've rated 5 stars are slightly more likely to be played than those you've rated 4 stars. Additionally, songs with a higher average rating by all users will be played slightly more often overall. Our playlist generator will do its best not to repeat anything you've heard in the last hour or so. All these functions should happen in the background and not be very noticeable under most circumstances.
- How do I remove something from my Five-Star Radio?
While you're listening to a song, change its rating to three stars or lower. That will also remove it from your Five-Star Radio playlist. This works no matter what channel you're listening to at the time.
- How close am I to unlocking Five-Star Radio?
In the music player, we'll display the total number of songs you've rated just below the rating stars. You can also see your total by selecting "View rated songs" from the Settings menu (the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen).
- My Five-Star channel still has my highly rated songs, but my total rated songs aren't in the music player anymore. Where did they go?
You can now see the total number of songs you've rated on the Five-Star Radio channel page. The number of songs you've rated four or five stars will still be shown inside the Five-Star channel tile.
- Can I blend Five-Star Radio with other channels?
No. Five-Star Radio cannot be blended.
- Can I get rid of the Holiday music?
When we launched Five-Star Radio in July 2017, we filtered out songs in our Holiday category from your Five-Star Radio channel, even if you've given them a rating of four or five stars. The surveys we did while developing this feature let us know that most listeners don't want to hear Holiday music in the summer and fall.
We have now made it possible to add those songs back in! There is a toggle button in the music player which says "Include Christmas songs?" It is set to "No" by default. You can find it just to the left of the Play button, the same place where other channels have the Blend button. Note that the number of songs included in your Five-Star Radio channel will change when you filter Holiday / Christmas songs in or out.
If you've only ever rated Christmas songs on your current account, you'll need to rate at least 16 regular songs. At that point, you can launch the channel and turn the toggle to "On."
For example: here is an account which has rated 19 Christmas songs and one non-Holiday song. If the Holiday / Christmas toggle is turned to "Off", an error message pops up when the next song tries to load. If the player were closed just then, it would no longer be possible to launch Five-Star without first rating another 15 non-Holiday songs.
- Help! My Five-Star Radio channel disappeared!
Double check to make sure you are logged in via your usual method. It is possible to log in using either an email address or Facebook. Ratings for each login method are saved separately. So if you most often log in with your email address, your Five-Star Radio will not be visible (and vice versa). If you're sure the account information is correct but are still having trouble, the best first step is to clear your cache.
Individual ratings can be changed while a song is playing. Song ratings are permanently saved on your AccuRadio account. It's not possible to delete song ratings, and thus not possible to delete Five Star, as long as your account exists.
- Can you put mp3s of every song in my Five-Star Radio on a device and sell it to me?
Unfortunately, we can’t. But any time you’d like to take a look through your ratings history (by clicking "View rated songs" on the Settings menu), you can use the links we've provided to buy some of your favorite music.
